“Emerging from Broken” Expert Invited to Share Wisdom in New Self-Help Film

movie promo pic I’ve been keeping something under my hat these past few weeks that I have been bursting to tell you all! I have some exciting and fabulous news;

My work and my message here on Emerging from Broken have been discovered by a movie producer and I have been invited to co-star in the next “Key” movie as a featured “Key Expert.” Writer/Producer Robin Jay, an award-winning filmmaker, has just signed me to be a featured expert in her newest film, “The Secrets of the Keys.”

The film will star icons of the personal development industry including Brian Tracy, Michael Beckwith, Dannion Brinkley (Author of “Saved by the Light,”) John Assaraf, Gloria Loring, (author, singer, songwriter, actress) and will feature special guest don Miguel Ruiz, author of “The Four Agreements.” I am beyond excited and extremely honored to have been invited to co-star with these amazing messengers in the field of self-help and personal development.

The ‘Secrets of the Keys’ is a prequel to Robin Jay’s first movie,  “The Keeper of the Keys,” which stars Jack Canfield (co-creator of “Chicken Soup for the Soul” and author of “The Success Principles”), Marci Shimoff (author of “Happy for No Reason”), and Dr. John Gray (author of “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus.”) “The Keeper of the Keys” was the first funny self-help film. It won the Las Vegas International Film FestivalAward for Best Independent Film and The INDIE Fest Award for Best Documentary.

The first thing that caught my eye on the Key Movies website (www.TheKeyMovies.com) was their tag line: “Taking the Hell out of Self-Help.”  I am ALL for that! The second thing that caught my eye was that these are “real” movies, hybrids that incorporate a fictional story line and characters interacting with the film’s experts, as opposed to the more traditional “talking head” style of documentaries that typically identify the self-help genre of films. In “The Keeper of the Keys,” personal development experts interact with fictional characters by sharing deeply personal stories of transformation. As viewers, we find ourselves rooting for the main character, a man who is feeling victimized by his circumstances, and we hope he will become empowered by the experts’ inspirational messages.

Robin Jay initially reached out to me through the contact form on www.EmergingfromBroken.com after hearing from another ground-breaking expert who is going to appear in the film, Mel Carnegie . Mel is the author of the book “I’m Still Standing” and a fan of the work I have been doing. As you can imagine, when I first got that first email from Robin Jay introducing herself and asking me if I would be interested in being a key expert in her next movie, I thought someone was playing a joke. My heart skipped a little beat and I held my breath a bit while I checked out the links to The Key Movies website. When I realized her interest in me was legitimate, I was excited, scared, insecure, confident, skeptical, thrilled and overwhelmed, all at the same time! I put my fears through the process and realized none of them were too worrisome ~ they all come from the default mode of “not good enough” and I have already conquered that!   After several emails back and forth, and a four hour phone call with writer/producer Robin Jay the following day, I made the decision to embrace this amazing and rare opportunity to carry my message to a global audience with all my enthusiasm and passion. I agreed to join the cast of “The Secrets of the Keys. Producer Robin Jay said I have my finger on the pulse of what keeps most of us from moving forward and feels that my message will resonate with the film’s audience, since so many people have had to deal with some sort of abuse in their lives.”

The contracts are all signed sealed and delivered…. And I couldn’t be more thrilled. Now that I have had a chance to absorb it all, I think all that I am nervous about is what to wear to the VIP Premiere (I am not a big fan of shopping) and feeling amazing on the Red Carpet!!  Just kidding…well maybe just a little bit kidding…I am actually both nervous and over the moon excited about the Premiere and walking the Red Carpet! I will have the opportunity to be photographed along side of all the other incredible stars in this groundbreaking film. The VIP Red Carpet Premiere will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada – “The Entertainment Capital of the World”! I hope you will consider coming to this amazing event when the time comes. Production is due to begin in the next month or two when Robin will begin filming some of the key movies stars in the Southern California area. As for me, I will be filmed in a studio in Las Vegas, Nevada, later this year. I will be posting updates here, on the Emerging from Broken facebook page (and on my personal FB page, which everyone is welcome to follow me on) and in email updates which you may sign up for on the right side bar when you download the Guide to Getting Unstuck. I am going to do some fun stuff to get my readers involved in the movie making process!

If you would like to experience the first funny self-help film ever, “The KEEPER of the KEYS,” it’s available now for streaming or download from The Key Movies Website.

I look forward to sharing more with you as we move forward into the production phase of “The SECRETS of the KEYS”!

Please share your thoughts with me!

There is freedom, wholeness, and living life to the fullest on the other side of broken!

    Hi Darlene,

You have helped so many broken people find their way. I have been honored to post on this site along with all the regulars here. You are like a ray of light in the darkness to enlighten the world about healing from child abuse issues. I have received more kindness and support here than by going to past “so-called” therapists.
    You’ve earned all your successes!

    Blessed Be,

      Hi Marie
I am really honored when people tell me stuff like that! It keeps me going forward and striving to keep doing this.
      Thank you again,

Congrats again Darlene! I agree totally with Kris Healing. It’s such a huge difference to be told/shown how and why standing up for yourself is a good thing, not just “okay,” not just acceptable if it’s necessary for your health, as though just knowing the truth in yourself, but not speaking it, would be the mark of the stronger, healthier person… so that if you do “have to” stand up for yourself, you’re still swallowing that idea of being “less than.” The notion that it’s the good thing, the better thing, is huge. And now that I see it, it seems a bit ridiculous that this doesn’t seem understood by so much of society. Standing up for others is generally seen as a good thing, better than keeping silent, in so many other aspects of life, but somehow standing up for yourself within family systems isn’t, even when it harms people and teaches by example? Or just because it maybe took us years to find our voice and figure out what happened, somehow saying “that wasn’t right” is made void, when nothing “disappears” our experience; we still have our child self within us. The pain and need to have someone stand up for ourselves is still there… and so it is the good thing, the right thing, for us to stand up for those children, ourselves, to give equality back to those children’s lives that were harmed, and while we can’t save “them,” the past being over now, in standing up for what happened to them, we can save ourselves in our present and for our future… to take back our lives and our power. And it’s your blog that helped me see that, validating me as being equal to everyone else who deserves to be stood up for. I’m glad that your message will reach more and more people. It’s a very good thing, and though this work is very difficult and the cost for standing up can be pretty awful, still I know it is and will be worth it. Many thanks.

      Hi Nadia and Simona,
      Thank you for your comments!

      Hi Alaina!
Once again you make such valid points; it is true that the world has a skewed and weird point of view! And we are all about busting through it in order to save ourselves and others like us! The key is realizing “equal value” and owning that truth!
      Thanks for your comments!
      hugs, Darlene

Reading your blog i am shedding tears of joy for you Darlene. You truly are an inspiration xxx I love how you describe your mix of emotions about this experience. It looks like the law of attraction is smiling down on you and you deserve so much good for all you have done by supporting so many survivors on EFB. As the producer said “you have your finger on the pulse” in terms of relating to others through your own challenges as a survivor! That “not good enough” has been central to my struggles but i cried again reading you naming that and kicking it to the kerb!!! Bask in this joy you have taught me so much through this site and for your existence i am truly grateful. Xxxxx

      Hi Kris Healing
When I first saw who else was going to be IN the movie I was like OH MY GOSH! (I too knew who most of the other experts are, and admire them all, and Gloria Loring is Robin Thicke’s MOM! my kids are excited about that one! LOL)
Thank you for your note! I am going to be asking for ideas from my readers in the future and
I appreciate you posting what has been important to you about my message!
      hugs, Darlene

      Hi Marie
Thank you so much for your encouragement! It means a lot to read your words!
      hugs, Darlene

This is so exciting!! I’m absolutely thrilled – I am familiar with most of those other names, and this is big-time! I have to say though that it’s entirely deserved. I have read so many things to help me in my healing and your writings have absolutely been #1 in helping me to learn that it’s not just okay but a good thing to stand up for yourself. It’s okay to not think my parents did their best, and it’s okay for me to not feel the need to forgive them. Those were ideas you planted and I’m so grateful. I can’t wait for the movie! Congratulations!!!

Darlene this is awesome news!!!!!!! I am very happy for you and I share with your enthusiasm. I know how special and meaningful this is for you. This is a big one!!

My story just aired for the 2nd time on an ABC network recently (which can be found on my website). I was just as over the moon as you were. However, my enthusiasm quickly turned to sadness. I had discovered that the people who I thought were really my friends weren’t really happy for me, (and I think in fact jealous). That hurt. But you know as well as I do that our motivation comes from helping others. We are not the type of people who are self-centered like our abusers. And that’s why we get so excited when we have an even bigger opportunity to help more people. You have EVERY reason to be happy and more!!!

I think you are going to be GREAT and perfect for this!!! Looking forward to seeing it. (Your mother was a complete fool to walk away from a wonderful daughter like you).

    Dear Darlene,
This is part of your dream coming true, isn’t it? To reach the world with a message of hope and healing. You did good! :))
P.s. I don’t post much, but I follow all your posts. You have been a help and inspiration to me for the past four years.

When the student is ready, the teacher appears, and this hurting world is so ready for your message of hope! Hooray, Darlene! <3

    • By: Darlene Ouimet Posted: 14th May

Hi DXS, Alice and Stitch! Thank you so much for your congrats!

Yes, It is a big part of my dream coming true. About 5 years ago I was sitting in a conference and the theme was “making a difference in the world with your passion” and it was in that conference that everything changed for me and I saw the way to make my dream of spreading the message of hope and healing a reality through this kind of medium. I see this movie as a big vehicle to getting that message to a way larger audience! Thanks for your message!
      hugs, Darlene

  13. By: Alice Posted: 13th May

    Congratulations Darlene!

  14. By: DXS Posted: 13th May

This is awesome and I’m so happy for you!

Darlene, this is so thrilling! You were born for such a time as this! I tend to be somewhat spiritual in my perspectives of doors opening for people like this and it seems to me that God has chosen you to bring this message. It is amazing! If you are actually nervous about what to wear on the red carpet, you can simply wear yourself….what you would naturally choose to dress up in will be what is authentic and appropriate and most of all…COMFORTABLE while your emotions are over the top! I loved how you wrote about all of your many emotions hitting you at the same time and the root of the negative ones was that old feeling of not being good enough, but you were able to locate and recognize it and let it go!!! That is wonderful. You obviously are good enough! I feel like a cheerleader! You go girl! 🙂

    • By: Darlene Ouimet Posted: 13th May

      Hi Light
It is an honor and it is totally validating! I will be keeping everyone updated and I want to do some writing about “my Key” and how it has manifested into my life!

      Hi FinallyFree
Yes it is thrilling! I agree that this is a God thing! Thank you for being my cheerleader! I will gratefully accept all the cheering on anyone wants to give me!
      Hugs, Darlene

      Hi Judy! Thanks so much!

  17. By: Light Posted: 13th May

Congratulations Darlene! What an honor and validation – and a unique, amazing experience as well!! You’ve worked sooo hard: both the physical work of reading all of the comments, replying, one-on-one counseling, writing posts, etc., along with the more difficult task of emotional work to even get to where you are. You’ve had to overcome so much and you did. Can’t wait to hear more about it.

  18. By: Caden Posted: 13th May

Congratulations Darlene! That’s amazing; I’m so glad your work is being honored (deservedly) in this way and your vital message can reach an even wider audience! I’m so happy for you!
